500 homes in Kinmylies lose supply “due to a build-up of natural sediment within the network system which in turn affected one of the control valves, reducing the flow of water within the pipes”. This followed a pumps failure earlier in the week which cut off water to thousands of customers in Inverness, North Kessock and parts of Nairn and led to 32 schools being closed and disruption to homes and businesses, due to an electrical fault. At one point 37,000 properties were affected as supplies ran dry during the peak morning period,

A Scottish Water spokesperson said “We have never ever had the network down like that,” and explained there was no historical basis for comparison. “On Monday it was unprecedented and massive,” she added.

January 2005

Supplies affected in Kinmylies and Scorguie due to a burst water main, and water tanks were put on streets across the area.
