About Councillor Alex Graham

Alex GrahamAlex Graham is the Liberal Democrat Focus Team councillor for Inverness West and a Deputy Provost of the City of Inverness.

Alex is Chartered Accountant with a lengthy track record in local government. He is regarded by some as a gritty local representative and is one of the few councillors in the north who publishes both a newsletter and a website. Currently a disproportionate amount of his time is spent campaigning for a bypass for the city of Inverness.

He served for 15 years on the former Inverness District Council as councillor for the Kinmylies ward, standing down on re-organisation in 1996. He is now the only former member of Inverness District Council still in local government.

Alex was elected to Highland Council in May 2007 under the new Single Transferrable Vote system, achieving the “quota” of 25% of the total votes cast on the very first count by just 2 votes!

Alex was born and raised in the Isle of Lewis and is a native Gaelic speaker. He works at the language development agency Bòrd na Gàidhlig. You can read more about Alex on his profile page.
